WANGGAI'S RETURN HIS OWN INITATIVE : FOREIGN MINISTRY
Tangerang, Nov 29 (ANTARA) - The Indonesian foreign ministry's director for protection of Indonesian citizens Teguh Wardoyo has affirmed that Yunus Wanggai, a Papuan who had sought asylum in Australia, had returned home voluntarily.
"The initiative purely came from Yunus Wanggai himself," he Wardoyo said while welcoming Wanggai and his daughter Anike Wainggai on their arrival at Soekarno-Hatta international airport here Saturday.
He said Yunus Wainggai was in no way coerced to return home after being granted asylum by the Australian government since 2006.
The foreign ministry, through the Indonesian embassy in Australia, had only done its duties to protect and facilitate citizens who want to return home in Yunus Waingggai's case.
Wardoyo said Yunus and Anike Wainggai would be provided accomodations in a hotel in Jakarta before being flown to their home in Papua.
"Yunus will go home to Papua after getting the air tickets," he said.
