S. Korea's ad market likely to decline 2.6 pct this year

SEOUL, Nov. 30 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's advertising market is expected to shrink
this year as companies cut back on promoting their products amid the economic
slump, an industry association said Sunday.
The country's advertising market is expected to reach 7.78 trillion won (US$5.32
billion) this year, compared with last year's 7.98 trillion won, marking its
first contraction since 2004, when the market shrank 2.1 percent, according to
the Korea Federation of Advertising Association.
The estimate was based on advertising in the four traditional media -- TV, radio,
newspapers and magazines -- and on the Internet.
The association forecast that next year's advertising market will further decline
to 7.51 trillion won.
