Man arrested in murder of parents, wife and daughter

SEOUL, Nov. 30 (Yonhap) -- A South Korean man detained on suspicions of killing
his wife and daughter has also confessed to killing his parents two years ago by
setting them on fire, police said Sunday.
The suspect, identified only by his surname Kim, was arrested last week on
suspicion of stabbing his wife and strangling his daughter to death at their home
in Okcheon, near Daejeon, about 150 km south of Seoul, on Thursday.
"Kim is accused of stabbing his wife to death after a marital quarrel. He also
strangled his two-year-old daughter, who allegedly witnessed the murder of his
wife," said a police officer.
What is even more surprising, said the officer, is that the 42-year-old Kim is
also suspected of killing both of his parents two years ago at their home.
"He has confessed to killing his parents in 2006 to take possession of their real
estate assets," said the officer.
Kim's 85-year-old father and 75-year-old mother died two years ago in a fire at
their home that was earlier believed to be a suicide attempt.
Kim was questioned at that time for any possible link to the fire, but walked
away after telling police that his mother had suffered from back pain, which led
police investigators to believe that it was suicide, according to officials at
the Okcheon police station.
