183 people killed in Mumbai terror attacks

New Delhi, Nov 29 (PTI) At least 183 people including
Indians, foreigners and security personnel were killed in
the Mumbai terror attacks targeting various locations in the
city including two luxury hotels and a Jewish residential
complex.

Briefing the media here Saturday, India's Special
Secretary (Home) M L Kumawat said that the operation has been
completed at Nariman House, Taj and Oberoi Trident hotels,
wherein nine terrorists have been neutralised by the security
forces, while one has been captured.

Giving the break-up of casualities available as of now,
Kumawat said, "Of those killed, 141 were Indians, while 22
were foreigners."

"Among the 20 security personnel killed, 14 were from
Maharashtra police, one each from State Reserve Police and
Railway Protection Force besides two casualties each from Home
Guards and NSG," Kumawat said.

The arms and ammunition recovered after the operation
from Nariman House included two AK-47 rifles, two pistols,
nine magazines of AK-47 and mobile phones.

"We also recovered two AK-47 rifles, eight magazines of
AK-47, two pistols and three live hand grenades from Hotel
Oberoi Trident," he said, adding that details of arms
recovered from Hotel Taj would be given later.

Break-up of foreigners killed in Mumbai terror attacks
include three each from Germany and Israel, two from Canada
and one each from US, UK, Japan, Australia, Italy, China,
Singapore, Thailand, and Mauritius.

"Identity of five foreign nationals is yet to be
ascertained," Kumawat said, adding that 23 foreign nationals
were injured in the operation.

He said that six security personnel injured in the
operation included two Majors, one Subedar, one Captain, one
Havaldar and one Commando.

"From Oberoi Hotel we rescued 250 people while 300
persons were rescued from Taj Hotel," Kumawat said.

The senior official further said that initially the
operation was carried out by Navy Commandos, but later on the
NSG Commandos took over and finished the whole the operation.

"They were given ground support by Central police forces,"
