11 get death sentence in Karna, Goa, AP church blasts case
Bangalore, Nov 29 (PTI) A special court here in the
southern Indian state of Karnataka Saturday sentenced 11
convicts to death and 12 others to life imprisonment in
connection with the serial bomb blasts in churches in
Karnataka, Goa and Andhra Pradesh, in 2000.
Justice S M Shivanna Gowda acquitted four others while
pronouncing the sentence Saturday. more PTI MSR
The accused, who belonged to Deendar Channabasaveshwara
Anjuman group, had carried out blasts in churches of J J Nagar
and Magadi Road police station limits in the city, besides
Wadi in Gulbarga district and Keshwapur in Hubli in 2000.
Those who got capital punishment are: Mohamad Ibrahim,
Shaikh Hasham Ali, Hasnuzama, Abdul Rehaman Saith, Amanath
Husain Mulla, Mohamad Sharfuddin, Sayed Muneerudin Mulla,
Mohmad Akhil Ahmed, Ijahar Baigh, Sayed Abbas Ali and Mohmad
Khalid Choudhary.
Those sentenced to life imprisonment are: Mohamad Farook
Ali, Mohamad Siddiqi, Abdul Habeeb,Shamshuzama, Shaikh Fardin
Vali, Sayed Abdul Khader Zilani,Mohamad Giyasuddin, Meerasab
Koujalagi, Rish Hiremath, Basheer Ahmed, Mohmad Husain and
Sangli Basha.
Mohmad Riyazuddin, Mohmad Jafer, Ismail Akki and Ameer
Hamza were acquitted by the court for lack of evidence.
The Judge, who heard the arguments of Public Prosector H
L Nilogal and counsel for the accused K Jairaj, Abdul Rashid
and P K Mohandas on November 22, put off pronouncing the
sentence to November 28.
Four members of the outfit were nabbed by city police
when explosive materials went off in the car in which they
were travelling in 2000 leading to the arrest of more than 80
persons. The Corps of Detectives, which probed the serial bomb
blasts, had filed chargesheet against 27 persons. PTI MSR
