Karkare's family spurns Modi's monetary help

Mumbai, Nov 29 (PTI) The family of slain Maharashtra
Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) chief Hemant Karkare has declined
the offer of monetary help from Chief Minister of the western
Indian state of Gujarat Narendra Modi, sources said Saturday.

Modi Friday visited the residences of Karkare and
encounter specialist Vijay Salaskar, who were killed while
fighting militants on Wednesday night.

Modi also announced that his government would give Rs
one crore to Maharashtra for the families of policemen killed
in the attacks.

Karkare's widow and other family members have declined
Modi's offer, the sources said.

Fourteen (14) Maharashtra police personnel, including
two IPS officers, sacrificed their lives while fighting
