INDIAN PRESIDENT VISITS TAMAN AYUN TEMPLE
Denpasar, Bali, Nov. 29 (ANTARA) - Indian President Pratibha Devisingh Patil and her 60-member entourage on Saturday visited the Taman Ayun Hindu Temple in Mengwi sub district, Badung district.
Badung District Head Anak Agung Gede Agung and tens of young children performing traditiondal dances greeted the Indian President before she entered the Hindu shrine.
Wearing a white saree and a yellow shawl, the Indian president performed prayers led by a Hindu priest in the temple, together with hundreds of local people.
The Indian president stayed in the temple for about one hour during which she also planted a mangosteen tree and sowed flowers to respect plants.
The Taman Ayun Temple, located about 18 km north of Denpasar, was built in the era of the Mengwi kingdom in the 17th century. It is ringed by vast fish ponds giving the impression it is floating on water.
The temple covering a four hectare area, has beautiful building with a multitiered roof and Balinese Architecture. It also has a wide beautiful landscape garden in the front courtyard.
President Patil and her entourage arrived in Bali on Friday evening (Nov. 28) for a visit to Indonesia until December 3, 2008.
She will leave Bali for Jakarta on Sunday (Nov. 30) to strengthen bilateral relations and cooperation between Indonesia and India, especially in the political, economic, trade, investment and tourism sectors.
