Saudi Consulate in Mumbai denies reports of deaths among victims
Mumbai, November 28, SPA -- The Saudi Consulate in Mumbai denied
media reports of the killing of two Saudi nationals among victims of
terror attacks in Mumbai, confirming that the Saudi Consul General
has personally toured the five hospitals allotted to receive the
victims of the bloody incidents.
In a statement to the Saudi Press Agency, the Consulate said an ad
hoc committee it has formed upon directives of Prince Saud Al-Faisal,
the Foreign Minister, reported that no Saudi fatality among the
victims of the incident.
The report said the Consulate received some 440 telephone enquiries
from relatives of the Saudi nationals based in India and followed-up
the situations of 14 Saudis, including six Consulate staff members,
led by the Consul General, who safely escaped at the moment of the
incident.
Moreover, the Indian authorities were successful to set free five
Saudi nationals who were among hostages of Taj Mahal hotel, the
report said, adding that Saudi Arabian Airlines has exerted great
efforts to evacuate Saudi citizens to the Kingdom, providing tickets
to 12, reservation to another 12 and accommodation to six while
waiting for finalizing their travel procedures.
The Consulate said Saudi students are based some 150 kilometers away
from the site of the incident, safe and comfortable. Saudi nationals
who reside far away from the location are estimated at 150 citizens
who expressed wish to remain in Mumbai.
The Consulate requested them to be cautious and call back if any
emergency arises.
