RUSSIAN DELEGATION TO APA WANTS RESOLUTION ON PALESTINE

Jakarta, Nov 28 (ANTARA) - The Russian delegation to the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) meeting here wants the conference to adopt a concrete resolution of the Palestine issue.
The wish was expressed by the Russian delegation when it met APA President Agung Laksono on the meeting's sidelines on Friday.
The delegation consisted of Rudik Iskuzhin, Georgi Lentiev, Olga Folomeeva, Yulia Guskova, Alexander Tribunsky and Petr Razvin.
Laksono who is also speaker of Indonesia's House of Representatives (DPR) told the press after the meeting, Russia was very concerned about the Palestinian problem and its delegation had proposed that one of APA's resolutions would deal with the problem.
"A decision on the resolution is currently still being discussed by the standing committee," he said.
Laksono said he could understand the Russian proposal and also had no objections to APA contributing to the creation of peace in the Middle East.
"I have no objections to it because it is about balance. In making the resolution the APA will not take sides and will ensure that no potential is left behind. So if a statement were to be made it must cover all the potentials."
The APA executive board had already drafted a resolution titled "Humanitarian Crisis in Palestine, in particular in the Gaza Strip" which in essence voinces deep concern over the humanitarian crisis in Palestine, particularly in Quds and Gaza.
The APA will state that it will continue expressing its concern over continued Israeli actions in killing the Palestinian people in the occupied land, the siege of the Palestinian people in Gaza and the cutting off of medical and food supplies to the Palestinian people.
The APA also plans to condemn the crimes and attrocities that have been committed by Israel in Gaza and the West Bank and appeal to APA members to fight for safety and welfare of the Palestinian people in Gaza.
Other issues to be put in APA resolutions are economic, energy and terrorism which the Indonesian delegation hopes will only be put in the Jakarta Declaration.
