Vietnam Red Cross eyes increased cornea donation

Da Nang (VNA) - The Vietnam Central Red Cross Association in Da Nang city
held a course regarding effective communication to encourage the community to donate
their corneas on November 26.

The three-day course aims to help the Red Cross staff and freelance communication
workers from Da Nang city, Ho Chi Minh City and the provinces of Nghe An, Ha
Tinh and Thua Thien - Hue engage in information campaigns to urge the
community to volunteer their corneas for use in transplants.

During the course, experts will provide a basic knowledge of cornea-related
diseases, cornea transplant methods, and methods of encouragement to increase
cornea donations.

They also highlighted the laws and the methods used to organise and effectively
manage cornea donation drives.

There are currently approximately 300,000 people suffering from blindness due to
cornea-related diseases in Vietnam , with 150,000 of them blind in both eyes.
