RUPIAH DOWN 200 POINTS EARLY WEDNESDAY

Jakarta, Nov. 26 (ANTARA) - The rupiah tumbled against the US dollar in the Jakarta interbank spot market here on Wednesday due to high demand for the greenback.

The rupiah traded at Rp12,300/12,500 per US dollar, down 200 points from Rp12,100/12,300 per US dollar at the market's closing a day earlier.

PT Finance Corpindo Finance President Director Edwin Sinaga said here on Wednesday the rupiah plunged amid Bank Indonesia (BI)'s efforts to provide enough US dollars to meet the high demand.

BI, the central bank, was likely to join hands with other Asian central banks to meet the demand for the greenback in the domestic market, he said.

The domestic money market was still dominated by speculative buying of US dollars and this would continue for some time, he said.
