SOCAR PRESIDENT MEETS USAID ADMINISTRATOR
Baku, 25 November,(AzerTAj)President of Azerbaijan`s state oil firm, SOCAR, Rovnag Abdullayev met Tuesday with USAID Administrator and Director of United States Foreign Assistance Henrietta Fore and her accompanying delegation.
Abdullayev expressed satisfaction at SOCAR-USAID cooperation, saying it has been
expanded over the last few years.
He described an agreement on preparation of a feasibility study of the TransCaspian
oil and gas pipeline project “as one of vivid evidences to high level of our
cooperation.”
The SOCAR president said today Azerbaijan is not only an oil, but also gas exporting
country.
“Today we are exporting our gas to Turkey and Georgia. I believe in the future
Azerbaijan will become one of the major contributors to ensuring European energy
security.”
Abdullayev said Azerbaijan is also ready to play the role of a transit country for
transportation of energy resources from Central Asia to Europe.
Henrietta Fore said the United States welcomes Azerbaijan`s achievements in the
field of energy.
She touched upon the recent Baku Energy Summit and its final declaration, expressing
confidence this will contribute to Azerbaijan`s further diversifying its energy
transportation.
Speaking of USAID-SOCAR cooperation, Fore said her agency is ready to assist the
Azerbaijani company in cleaning oil polluted grounds across the country.
US ambassador in Baku Anne Derse was also present in the meeting.
