Arab-German cultural dialogue forum opens in Dubai today

Dubai, Nov 26, 2008 (WAM) - The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation yesterday announced the Arab German Cultural Dialogue Forum (AGCDF) will open in Dubai today, bringing together a panel of over 200 renowned intellects and literary personalities from Germany and across the Arab World to explore new avenues for reviving cultural exchange and broadening the understanding of contemporary social trends.

During the first of its kind event, discussions will address key topics ranging from the role of the intellect on the global landscape to prospects of future cultural relations between the Arab World and Europe, particularly Germany.

The forum underlines the Foundation's objectives towards promoting inter-regional dialogue and reflects its deep interest in widening the scope of cultural cooperation between the Arab world and the West.

The forum will include focused sessions exploring the image of Arabs in the West; the synergy shared by anthropologists in the Arab World with their counterparts in the West and the impact of their intellectual contribution on the Arab and European cultural scenes; the current and historical role of translation as a key tool for knowledge transfer and cultural development; impact of global political changes on culture; and the waning influence of indigenous languages in the wake of widespread use of English.

Informal tours of various historical and heritage sites in Dubai will be extended to the Arab and German forum participants during the afternoon. A visit to the Al Bastakiya district, a culture theme evening at the Sahra Desert Resort and a cruise trip on Dubai Creek are among the activities lined up by the Foundation to offer guests an authentic experience of the UAE's rich cultural heritage.
