Shahristani discusses with the head of Lukoil activities in developing oil and gas sector in Iraq

BAGHDAD / NINA / Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Hussain al-Shahristani discussed on Sunday with the head of Russia's LUKOIL Waheed Kabirov the company's activity in the development of oil and gas sector in Iraq . A statement by the Office of Shahristani said that the two sides discussed preparations of the company for the opening of the West Qurna 2 oilfield, and start production with a primary capacity of 120 000 barrels per day next Saturday, and the discussions also included the investment project of the petrochemical industries, which the company intends to build in the province of Basra and the company's work in exploratory areas, and its intention to participate licenses in the field and refinery in Nasiriyah . Shahristani called on the company to accelerate the pace of production in the West Qurna -2, and expressed his readiness " to overcome all the obstacles facing the company's business in Iraq . For his part, Kabirov expressed the company's desire to establish a joint company for oil exploration between his company and the Ministry of Oil to do business for oil exploration in different areas in Iraq. Shahristani welcomed the project of establishing a joint oil exploration company , and also petrochemical project which will exploit part of the associated gas from West Qurna 2 oilfield . / End
