Iran calls on IAEA chief to resist pressures
Tehran, Nov 24, IRNA Foreign Ministry spokesman, Hassan Qashqavi, called on the UN nuclear
agency's chief, Mohamed Elbaradei, to resist pressures while composing
report on Iran.
Qashqavi made the remarks commenting on ElBaradei's 14th report on
Iran on November 22 reaffirming the peaceful nature of Iran's nuclear
program.
The spokesman recommended the International Atomic Energy Agency's
director general to act within the agency's regulations and reject
pressures exerted on him by certain governments.
"It is quite clear that there was political pressures out of the the
IAEA's framework," Qashqavi said during his weekly press conference.
He stressed that certain countries with certain purposes were putting
pressures on ElBaradei.
In his report to the agency's 35-member Board of Governors, ElBaradei
reaffirmed that all activities of Iran's nuclear facilities were under
the agency's surveillance and that there have been no indications of
reprocessing.
However, the report also raised the issue of Iran's alleged studies to
produce atomic bomb.
Iran has repeatedly denied the allegation calling it as fabrication.
"Iran has repeatedly announced that if there is any evidence on the
alleged studies, it should be handed over to Tehran," Rapporteur of
Iran's Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Kazem
Jalali said on Friday.
The US raised the issue of alleged studies after Iran resolved all the
outstanding issues with IAEA in the context of a Modality Plan signed
by Iran and the UN nuclear agency last year.
