Government enhances Social care and Community assistance

Riyadh, November 24, SPA -- The Saudi Government has been giving
utmost attention to the handicapped, the elderly people, juveniles,
children and members of other needy categories.


The Government has been providing these categories with the required
assistance and care.


In last blessed month of Ramadan, the Custodian of the Two Holy
Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz ordered to increase the financial
assistance allocated for all categories of the handicapped that are
registered at the lists of the ministry of social affairs by an
additional annual sum amounting to SR 1,041,000,000. This sum will
raise the allocations of the handicapped that are registered at the
ministry of social affairs to SR 2,082,000,000.


King Abdullah ordered to pay SR 1, 150,000,000 to all families
included in the system of the social insurance.

Moreover, The Ministry of Social Affairs has been playing an
important role in the service of the society, notably the
handicapped, the aged people and the adolescents.


A report prepared by the Ministry said the social care in the
kingdom of Saudi Arabia has made big strides in a very short span of
time.


The report said the number of the vocational and social
rehabilitation centers increased to 27 in 1424-1425 AH as compared to
only two in 1405AH.


The Ministry is also extending assistance to families of the
handicapped children, and at the same time it has been adopting
guidance programs for women and housewives.



In 1424-1425 AH, the centers and committees of social development
carried out hundreds of projects, and these projects, which benefited
thousands of citizens were implemented at a total cost of SR51
million.


The report pointed out that the number of the cooperative societies
amounts to 153 with 40,677 members.


The department of the social insurance, established in 1382 AH, and
which is linked to the Ministry of Social Affairs, has been
undertaking the assistance of families and individuals who benefit
from the system of social insurance.


In Rajab 1426 AH, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King
Abdullah bin Abdulaziz issued directives to increase the minimum
allocations for the social insurance from SR 16, 200 to SR 28,000 for
the family.


Meanwhile the number of social insurance offices has jumped to 78
and the allocations for the social insurance jumped to SR 3.03
billion.
