Foreign Minister meets British counterpart
Abu Dhabi Nov 25, 2008 (WAM) - Foreign Minister HH Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan received yesterday the British Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs David Miliband. Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Dr. Anwar Mohammed Gargash was also present.
At a meeting held at the Emirates Palace, they discussed the friendly relations and avenues of cooperation between UAE and UK. They also exchanged views on the developments in the peace process in the Middle East and reiterated the importance of achieving a just and comprehensive peace. A number of regional and global issues and current developments also featured their talks.
In this respect, the ministers discussed the global financial crisis and its impact on the economies of the world countries, and emphasised the need for adopting measures for bringing stability back to the markets.
Sheikh Abdullah hailed the historical relations binding Britain and UAE together, and the keenness of the two sides to bolster these relations in various avenues.
In honour of David Miliband Sheikh Abdullah hosted a banquet lunch, which was also attended by officials from both sides and the British ambassador to UAE Edward Oakden.
