APEC LEADERS AFFIRM COMMITMENT TO BOGOR DECLARATION
Lima, Peru, Nov 24 (ANTARA) - APEC leaders agreed to reaffirm their commitment to implement APEC's Bogor Declaration.
The Bogor Declaration opened the free market to the developed countries in 2010, and to 2020 for the developing countries.
"We strengthen our commitment to increasing economic growth, development and speeding up the recovery from the slow economic growth," as stated in the Lima Declaration set in the 16th APEC economic leaders meeting in Lima, Peru.
Meanwhile, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said the APEC forum is a collective commitment to continue implementing the Bogor Declaration.
"It has been underlined that economic diificult times is not a reason to increase protectionism that is far away from the Bogor Declaratio's goal. Almost all the participants talked about that matter," President said.
Another prominent issue, according to President Yudhoyono, was the implementation of the WTO Doha Round.
All the countries asked for a firm schedule so there will be some progress to be discussed in the WTO meeting in December.
"This is also related to the G-20 meeting. In 2009, the world really wants to achieve something after the deadlock for some time," the President said, adding that many problems like food and the development of the small and medium enterprises can be affected by ignoring the Doha agreement.
"Other issues include corporate social responsibility (CSR) which is hoped to be increased in the current global financial crisis," the President added.
"I suggest a collaboration between the government priority and the private interests. So, the CSR will be more effective to face the problem," said the President.
The Lima Declaration also said that APEC welcomes the result of the work of the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC) in improving the business climate and active partitipation in dealing with small and medium enterprises in the APEC economic integrated regional forum.
APEC also reaffirmed the structural reform implementation which consists on three pillars--trade and investment liberalization, business facilities and economic assistance cooperation.
The APEC leaders supported the Lima Declaration on anti corruption and financial market integration.
