Shin wins third LPGA event to cap superb season

SEOUL, Nov. 24 (Yonhap) -- South Korean Shin Ji-yai won her third LPGA event of the year by claiming the season-ending US$1 million ADT Championship in Florida on Monday (Korean time), organizers said.

Shin, a 20 year-old non-LPGA member who clinched the British Women's Open in
August to win Tour membership starting next year, was coming off her second LPGA
victory two weeks ago in Japan.
She posted a two-under-par 70 to beat Australian veteran Karie Webb by a single
stroke at the Trump International course, also capturing her 11th title overall
this year, the LPGA said on its Web site.
Shin is now the first-ever player to have prevailed in three LPGA competitions in
a season as a non-member, signaling a strong maiden-year campaign ahead after she
joins the Tour next year.
"This has been a really special year for me," Shin told reporters following the
eight-player, 18-hole competition at West Palm Beach, Florida.
Shin has won a total of US$1.77 million in LPGA events this year. The amount
would put her in third place in money rankings after Lorena Ochoa and Paula
Cremer had she been an LPGA Tour member.
Shin, who has spent most of her career in Asia, qualified for the final round at
the ADT Championship after she passed a series of cuts in previous ones,
including a tied fifth on Sunday.
The Monday round opened with all previous scores reset, and Shin got off to an
early lead and allowed a tie only once, according to the LPGA.
Cremer of the United States shared third with South Korean Lee Seon-hwa, who
finished just a stroke ahead of compatriot Ji Eun-hee, the LPGA said.
