BI TO HUNT CENTURY ASSETS KEPT OVERSEAS

The central bank is demanding shareholders of ailing Bank Century take the fall for its condition, vowing to repatriate bank assets stashed in Singapore and the United Kingdom by bank shareholders. Bank Indonesia (BI) deputy governor Siti Chalimah Fadjrijah said Sunday BI would send letters to baning watchdogs in the two countries to help repatriate Century assets needed to save the bank.

OIL PALM FARMERS ECONOMY VULNERABLE

Although the price of oil palm fruit has slowly improved, the economy of oil palm farmers remains in a vulnerable situation because the price is still below their expectation.

CAPITAL FLIGHT ABROAD STILL HAPPENS

Capital flight abroad continues to happen and therefore it causes the rupiah to have fluctuated and weakened against dollar in the past few weeks. No official information about it from Bank Indonesia, but Center for Banking Crisis President Director Deni Daruri said the result of capital flight could be seen from the decrease in foreign exchange reserve from US$57 billion per September 2008 to US$50.8 billion at present.
