Government to hand over Professional Development Fund to private
SANA'A, Nov. 23 (Saba) - The private sector is to take over the
Professional Development Fund, a move which confirms the role of
the private sector in development process, minister of Technical
Education and Vocational Training has said.
Minister Ibrahim Omer Hajri said the government will hand over the
fund completely to the private sector, pointing out that the World
Bank will make a significant contribution to the reorganization of
the fund.
The new project to reorganize the fund takes into account activation
of several special programs to qualify workforce to cope with
technological transformations to meet the needs of the labor markets
in Yemen and neighboring states, Hajri said.
The board of directors of the fund will include chambers of industry
and commerce, the Federation of Labor and Unions as well as
representatives from the Finance and Technical Education and
Vocational Training ministries, he said.
Hajri made clear the new draft law for the fund would be presented
to parliament within the next two days to finalize constitutional
procedures.
The Professional Development Fund aims at building technical,
professional and applied capacity of all economic sectors in the
country and strengthening active participation among them in an
effort to improve technical and applied performance at various
institutions and develop production at the public and mixed sectors.
In addition, the fund will work to develop the skills of Yemeni
workforce and to improve production levels.
It will conduct necessary surveys that will aim at familiarizing
with the needs of the labor market and to encourage Yemeni laborers
training through training courses at workplaces.
