Agency`s justification session on Iran, Syria reports convened
Vienna, Nov 22, IRNA - International Atomic Energy Agency's justification session on latest reports by IAEA chief Muhamed ElBaradei on Iran and Syria was convened here Friday evening.
According to IRNA reporter here, the secretariat of the agency at the
session offered details on presented reports and further explained
that the nuclear material in Iran have been examined by IAEA
inspectors and found to be matching the declared specifications by
Iranian officials.
It was also said that the no information on so called claimed cases
has been received thus far at the agency and that the IAEA is still
expecting to receive such information from Iran to finalize the
respective files.
Various aspects of the report on Syria, too, were discussed at the
session and the head of the Syrian Atomic Energy Organization Ebrahim
Othman criticized the method of presenting the images and offering
explanations on them by the secretariat.
He emphasized that the images and slide shows on Syrian facilities
should have remained secret between Syria and the agency rather than
presented publicly.
Othman meanwhile criticized the agency's secretariat for revealing the
classified information of member countries before getting access to
any proof that any regulations have been breached.
He set example of an IAEA letter to Syria that had been published in
the world media two days before the letter was officially elivered to
the Syrian officials, which he said was very regrettable.
The Syrian official meanwhile reiterated, "Damascus feels no
obligation for offering any further information on Syria's non-nuclear
facilities to the agency!"
