One killed in clashes between security forces and protestors

Srinagar, Nov 22 (PTI) One person was killed and
several others injured in clashes between security forces and
anti-election protesters in Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla town
Saturday, official sources said.

Manzoor Ahmad Kumar, a resident of Khanpora, was
killed when he was hit by a bullet during anti-election
protests in the town, the sources said.

The incident happened when the Congress candidate in
Baramulla assembly segment was campaigning in the area, local
residents said and alleged that Kumar was shot dead by the
personal security officer of the Congress nominee from point
blank range.

However, officials neither confirmed nor denied the
allegations.

As soon as the news of death of Kumar spread, protests
intensified in the town with more people coming out to the
streets, the sources said.

The sources said security forces and protestors were
engaged in pitched battles in old Baramulla town and adjacent
areas.

Police fired tear smoke shells and several warning
shots to chase away the protestors but in vain, the sources
said, adding that at least six persons were injured in the
action by security forces.

Thirty people were injured in clashes between
protestors and security forces yesterday. The residents
alleged that security forces barged into their homes last
evening and ransacked the household goods as a reprisal
measure for holding protests in the afternoon.

Meanwhile, Baramulla District Magistrate Baseer Ahmad
Khan has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the killing of the
youth.

"A magisterial inquiry has been ordered into the
incident. Additional Deputy Commissioner Development will
conduct the inquiry to establish the facts of the incident,"
Khan told PTI, adding that the officer will submit his report
next week. PTI MIJ
