BANK MANDIRI TO GIVE TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE TO HANDLE BANK CENTURY
Jakarta, Nov 21 (ANTARA) - State-owned Bank Mandiri will give technical assistance for the handling of Bank Century that was taken over by the Indonesia Deposit Guarantee Agency (LPS) on Friday.
"We appointed Maryono (a senior banker) this morning after the LPS and BI (Bank Indonesia-central bank) asked Mandiri to give technical assistance. We will send a team consisting of three persons there to overcome technical problems," Bank Mandiri's Risk Management director, Sentot A Sentausa, said in Padalarang, West Java, on Friday.
He said the assistance would be merely technical and no guarantee would be given at all. "There will be no guarantee of any kind as the assistance is all technical," he said.
Sentausa said he did not know how long Bank Mandiri's technical assistance would last. "It is not yet known how long it will be," he said.
The assistance was purely Bank Mandiri's dedication to helping Bank Century and it had no intention at all to acquire the bank.
He said the assistance was to be given in an effort to maintain public confidence in banks.
Bank Century's problem had to be localized so that it would not spread to other banks.
"Our banks are still strong. Do not let the Century issue be generalized or be considered happening to all banks," he said.
Maryono who is now Bank Mandiri's Group Head Jakarta Coverage Network is one of the bank's talented staffers. "He has been a banker for 28 years and so is a senior banker," he said.
