GOVT SEEKING OVERSEAS ISPs` COOPERATION TO FIGHT CYBER CRIME
Jakarta, Nov 21 (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Informatics Ministry is exploring the possibility of fighting cyber crime in cooperation with a number of overseas internet service providers (ISPs).
Communications and Informatics Minister M. Nuh said the purpose of the cooperation was to prevent the misuse of information technology infrastructure facilities for unlawful purposes.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a breakfast meeting with telecommunications operators here on Friday, Nuh said the government was considering the possibility of establishing the cooperation with internet engine searchers 'Google', 'You Tube' and 'Wordpress.'
"We will ask them not to put unlawful materials in the net," he said.
He said the increasing incidence of cyber-crime cases should not be handled in an ad hoc way because the handling of the cases in such a way would only create new problems.
"Incidental response to and handling of a cyber crime will only create new problems because if we are confused how to handle it we then forget the matter later," he said.
He said his ministry had prepared four models to be applied in anticipating cyber crime, and the establishment of an institution which would continue to monitor information traffic in the cyber world.
