Thuraya IP Rolled Out in Libyan Government and Corporate Sectors
Abu Dhabi, Nov 20, 2008 (WAM) - ThurayaIP, the most advanced portable satellite broadband terminal, is being commissioned in large quantities in Libya's booming market. In partnership with General Post '&' Telecommunications Company (GPTC), its national Service Provider in Libya, Thuraya has recently begun installing ThurayaIP terminals for key user segments including government agencies, oil and gas companies, business corporates, media and international organizations operating in the country.
The move follows the signing of a major commercial deal this year between Thuraya and GPTC, according to which a large number of ThurayaIP terminals will be rolled out in most areas within Libya before the end of this year.
ThurayaIP is an advanced solution for portable satellite data communications. An A-5 sized sleek terminal, ThurayaIP has a speed of 444 Kbps. It also has the highest quality of video streaming capability in the market at a speed of 384 Kbps.
The competitive broadband offering is designed to meet the needs of various market segments including oil and gas, military, transport, maritime, media and others users working or located in remote areas. With an expanded coverage of more than 140 countries and most international waterways, ThurayaIP can be the ideal data solution for those sectors.
"Market response for ThurayaIP, as a powerful feature-rich satellite broadband terminal, has so far been overwhelming," said Thuraya's Chief Commercial Officer, Dr. Sven Rohte. "Feedback and usage levels by users across key segments such as media, NGOs and oil and gas are encouraging, signifying a very high prospect for Thuraya in the portable broadband industry." GPTC's Director of Thuraya, Salem Al Barshushi reiterated their strategic partnership with Thuraya for years in serving the Libyan market to meet the needs of communities, businesses and organisations located or operating in remote areas throughout the country. "With this new product, Thuraya will clearly bridge an existing gap for those customers requiring a high-speed data terminal as compact and practical as ThurayaIP" he pointed out.
To support its customers and business operations in the Libyan market, Thuraya is setting up a branch office for customers management, with a showroom displaying all Thuraya's products, services and accessories for mobile handhelds, fixed, rural telephony, maritime, broadband and fleet tracking communications.
