On Saturday (Nov 15) night, the National Police Headqarrters arrested Adriansyah for allegedly spreading false information that five banks were having liquidity problems.
Adriansyah spread the rumor by telling some of his clients by electronic mail (e-mail) that five banks were having liquidity troubles.
The five banks mentioned by Adriansyah were Artha Graha International, Bukopin, Century, Panin and Victoria.
Bapepam, according to Rahmany, needed to get an explanation from Adriansyah himself about his action which had the potential to create uncertainty amoong the publc.
"We do not know if he is guilty or not. We will check it first," Rahmany said, adding he still had not decided whether Adriansyah's license as a broker needed to withdrawn.
"I haven't decided yet how far Bahana Securitas is responsible for its employee's action," he said.
Bahana Securitas is a state-owned securities company established in 1993.
Meanwhile, State Enterprises Minister Sofyan Djalil regretted the false=information-dissemination case.
"I deeply regret it happened in Bahana Securitas. The personn involved must be given a legal sanction," Djalil said.
According to information from Bahana's board of directors, Djalil added, Adriansyah had acted in his personal capacity, not as a Bahana employee.
"His action was against the company's internal rules because it was not part of his (Adriansyah) job. He is only a salesman, not an analyst," Djalil said.
