GOVT ISSUES THREE STEPS TO BOOST FISH EXPORTS
Jakarta, Nov 19 (ANTARA) -The Ministry of maritime affairs and fisheries issued special tips to boost the export of fish bred in ponds during the ongoing global crisis, chairman of the ministry's centre for statistics and information, Soen'an Hadi Poernomo, said here Wednesday.
According to Soen'an, though Indonesia's fishery production was still good despite the global crisis, all the stakeholder must increase the the competency of its fishery products in the global market to overcome the tight competition in that sector.
The chairman urged all stakeholders in fish production to produce super efficient, real quality and mega marketing products.
Super efficient product means that breeding must be able to lower production cost to enable the products sold at lower prices. Real quality means the breeding must be able to produce good quality products which would be acceptable in market and the consumers.
Real Quality, he said, could be achieved through Good Fish Seedling (CPIB) and Good Fish Breeding program. Meanwhile, Mega Marketing could be done by developing market diversification of species and products in order to expand their market locally and overseas.
Moreover, Soen'an also said that fish was still an important export commodity as well as contribute to the country's forex renenue.
