BUOL DISTRICT HEAD CALLS FOR ASSISTANCE TO HELP REHABILITATE QUAKE-DAMAGED HOUSES
Buol, Central Sulawesi, Nov. 20 (ANTARA) - Buol District Head Amran Batalipu has called the central government and the Central Sulawesi Provincial administration to help rehabilitate houses and public infrastructures, damaged by a recent powerful earthquake recently.
"We are very much hoping that the central government would help rehabilitation and recovery processes in the quake aftermath," he said here on Thursday.
The Buol district administration was only capable of giving relief aid such as food to the quake's victims, but could not afford to rehabilitate damaged houses and infrastructures, he said.
Four residents were killed and some 1,144 houses were damaged when a 7.7-magnitude hit Buol on Monday (Nov. 17).
The earthquake's epicenter was located at 1.41 degrees northern latitude and 122.18 degrees eastern longitude at a depth of 10 km below sea level, around 48 km north of Paleleh, Buol District, and 138 km northwest of Gorontalo, which shares a border with the district.
The earthquake caused a power cut off in Buol District and destroyed a 400-meter-long bridge connecting Gadung and Paleleh sub districts as well as a 200-meter long hanging bridge in Lipunoto sub district.
