President inaugurates first phase of exporting liquefied gas

SANA'A, Nov. 19 (Saba)- President Ali Abdullah Saleh inaugurated on Wednesday the first phase of the giant economic project for exporting liquefied natural gas in Balhaf area in Shabwa governorate.

The first phase of the project covers getting the natural gas from gas fields in
sector 18 in Safer in Mareb governorate to Balhaf Port on the cost of the Arab Sea
via the 322-kilo meter long pipeline extended from Safer to the liquefying
facilities in Balhaf Port.

Upon arrival, the president toured the project and inspected the ongoing work in its
final phases. He listened to detailed explanation from the director of the project
Patrick Logo over phases of achievements in the project that composed of two

laboratories for liquefying the gas and two reservoirs to the natural liquefied gas,
in addition to a number of facilities covers airport, lodgings to workers with their
facilities and other buildings for workshops and administrations.



The president then turned the operation wheal for inaugurating the first phase of
the project and the arrival of the natural gas to liquidizing laboratories in the
exporting area in Balhaf and ignited the gas torch in the project that would export
the first of its shipment of the gas next June.

The project currently has 12 thousands workers, 60 percent of them are Yemenis. The
project also has provided working opportunities to thousands of labors who have
worked in constructing the pipeline project from Safer in Mareb to exporting area in
Balhaf.

The president delivered speech to different media outlets in which he expressed
happiness for inaugurating the first phase of the projects. "With inaugurating this
phase of the project, 4 electric stations will be operated with output of 80 mega
watt," said the president.



He announced that the first shipment of the Yemeni liquefied gas would be exported
early next May, noting that the project is considered the first of its kind in the
Middle East.

Then the president paid a visit to premises the Yemeni Liquefied Natural Gas and met
with the visiting Chairman of the Board of the company with whom he discussed
cooperation between Yemen and the company in gas and oil fields.

The president welcomed French investments in Yemen in fields of energy, industry and
others, affirming that these investments would get all support and encouragement for
realizing join interests.
