GOVT TO ACT FIRMLY AGAINST PROVOCATIVE WEBSITES

Jakarta, Nov 19 (ANTARA) - Communication and Information Minister Muhammad Nuh said the government would take firm measures against whoever had disseminated provocative materials through websites that create public unrest.

"The regulation we are having now has to do with public information freedom (KIP) and electronic transaction and criminal code, ban on dissimination of business or SARA (tribe, religion, race and inter group)-related conflicts.

"If something is banned, it means that there will be a legal consequnce," the minister told the press here on Wednesday.
According to him, through legal enforcement, perpetrators found to have dissiminated provocative information through their website will be searched and imposed with a terse sanction.

"The sanction could take the form of jail sentence and fines. We will let law enforcers take action against them regarless their individual, groups or companies," he said.
Earlier, it was reported that the emergence of provocative reports are rampant in the internet through Indonesia websites.

After the arrahmah.com website screening the photoes of the three executed Bali bombing I convicts, this time there was also a comic illustrating the figure of Prophet Muhammad.
Kept in a blog of wordpress.com, the comic was then distributed from one individual to another through instant messenger and electronic letter.
