Seven missing after fishing boat capsizes
GYEONGJU, South Korea, Nov. 19 (Yonhap) -- Seven crew members including an Indonesian national went missing after a fishing boat capsized in waters off the southeastern coast early Wednesday, police said.
The 79-ton boat lost its balance at around 2:40 a.m. while fishing about 40 miles
off Gampo, South Gyeongsang Province, maritime police said. Among its 10 crew
members, only three have been rescued so far and were receiving medical
treatment, they said.
"Five of the crew were sleeping in cabins on first and second floor when the boat
started to tilt. Water was already filling up inside the boat," said Hwang
Yong-jin, a 49-year old survivor.
"For about three hours, we were locked in the cabin, but swam out of there with
survival kits. There were other people coming out, but I cannot remember
clearly," he said.
The survivors were not seriously injured. They suffered mostly from slight
hypothermia and dislocation of joints.
Due to the weather conditions, police are having difficulty searching the seven
missing, including 25-year-old Indonesian Hdjsmunawk Gozau.
