Oil and gas corporation helps Cuban hurricane victims

Havana (VNA) - The PetroVietnam Exploitation and Production Corporation
(PVEP) has provided over 32,000 USD to Cuba to help the country overcome
the aftermath of hurricanes Gustav and Ike.

PVEP Cuba's Director Dinh Trong Huy handed over the donation to the
representative of the Cuban Basic Industries Ministry Alfredo Rio Hernandez
at a ceremony which took place in Havana on Nov. 17.

Huy expressed his belief that the Cuban people would quickly overcome the
consequences of the disasters, which lashed the Caribbean island country
on August 30 and September 8 respectively, resulting in economic losses
estimated at 8 billion USD.

The Vietnamese Government has already donated 300,000 USD and 300 tonnes of
rice, equivalent to another 200,000 USD. The donation was presented to the
Cuban people by the Vietnamese Vice State President Nguyen Thi Doan during
her visit to Cuba in October this year. In addition, Vietnamese
enterprises and organisations contributed a further 200,000 USD in cash and
commodities to the Cuban hurricane victims.-Enditem
