Iran one of world's safest countries: official

Tehran, Nov 18, IRNA - Head of Transport Administration, Mohammad Royanian, said on Tuesday
that Iran is one of the safest world countries, even safer than many
European states.

He made the remarks during his tour to the 15th International Press
and News Agencies Exhibition which is underway in Tehran November 16-23.

"Iran is much more safer than many other countries including European
and some Asian states," Royanian said.

He referred to the significant role being played by media and press to
portray a real image of the society and strengthen the sense of
security among people.

"Comparing to Iran, rubbery is five times higher in Germany and 10
times higher in Japan but both German and Japanese citizens feel more
secure than Iranians because they have come by media reports to the
conclusion that they enjoy highest level of security in their
countries," said the senior police officer.

He stressed that Iranian media and press should, too, play an active
role in reflecting police efforts to secure people's safety.

Media and press should reflect incidents in a way that would not
damage public security, he said.

"The sense of security is not very much felt by Iranian citizens as
they are influenced by bad reports appeared in most of the media."
