RI IMMIGRATION IN BEIJING REJECTS VISA APPLICATIONS EVERY MONTH
Beijing, Nov 16 (ANTARA) - The Immigration office at the Indonesian Embassy in Beijing for various reasons often rejects visa applications submitted by foreigners who want to visit Indonesia, Indonesian immigration Attache Firdaus Amir said.
"Every month, there is always a visa application for a visit to Indonesia which is rejected. But the number of rejected applications is small," he said here on Sunday.
Amir said that there were a number of reasons why the foreigners were rejected entry into Indonesia, for example, the applicants held a passport which no longer expires for over six months, or the applicants were included in the blacklist.
He said that the immigration office at the embassy exercised a tight control on foreigners so that it would not issue a visa for a foreigner who was included in the blacklist.
"We have a complete list of names of foreigners who are included in the blacklist. The list is integrated with all the immigration offices in Indonesia. So, if we reject someone in China, all immigration offices in Indonesia will also reject them," he added.
He did not reveal the figure of visa applications rejected by the Beijing immigration office each month.
He said that his office also conducted interviews with the would-be visitors at the immigration office in Beijing, usually when there was something suspicious found.
"Not all visa applicants are required to have interviews. Interviews are conducted only with foreigners who according to the immigration office need to be clarified," Amir said.
Applications might also be rejected if the applicants were foreigners who once violated the immigration rules such as overstaying or abusing their visas, such as using their tourist visas to work in Indonesia.
The immigration office at the Indonesian embassy in Beijing has issued visas for 25,666 applicants since January until October this year.
Non-tax income earned from this services in the January - October 2008 period reached 11.52 million yuan or about Rp18.71 billion.
This services included applications for visas, passports and travel document in lieu of passports (SPLP). ***8***
