AGRICULTURE MINISTER TO PROMOTE CPO IN BEIJING
Beijing, Nov 15 (ANTARA) - Agriculture Minister Anton Apriyantono is to promote crude palm oil before Chinese government officials, businessmen, members of non-governmental organization at a seminar on Indonesia's sustainable crude palm oil (CPO) industry here on November 24.
"The minister's presence at the seminar is a manifestation of the government's effort to promote Indonesian CPO before government officials, businessmen and members of local NGOs in that country," trade attache at the Indonesian embassy in Beijing Imbang Listiyadi told Antara correspondent in Beijing on Saturday.
He said Anton's presence at the seminar was of significance and strategic in elucidating profoundly the benefits and situation of the CPO industry in Indonesia to the Chinese public and authorities.
China itself was one of the biggest importers of Indonesian CPO, Imbang said, adding that therefore information to be presented by the agriculture minister at the seminar was seen as very crucial and strategic.
Minister Anton had attended similar seminars in a number of cities in Europe such as The Hague, London and Berlin with the purpose of promoting Indonesian CPO.
Imbang said the minister's presence in Beijing was expected to give more confidence to Chinese officials, businessmen and members of NGOs on the existence of Indonesian CPO, the price of which in the past months steadily declined amid the global financial crisis.
If Chinese authorities, businessmen and members of NGOs are sure that the presence of Indonesian CPO in the future will not run into snag or get any trouble such as a boycott by some parties against CPO from Indonesia and Malaysia.
The trade attache was reported to have invited more than 60 Chinese government officials, businessmen and members of local NGOs to attend the meeting with Minister Anton.
