AZERBAIJAN`S PREMIER ATTENDS MEETING OF CIS COUNCIL OF HEADS OF GOVERNMENT

Baku, 15 November,(AzerTAj)Azerbaijan`s Government delegation led by Prime Minister Artur Rasizade visited Thursday Chisinau, Moldova to attend a meeting of CIS Council of Heads of Government.

At the Chisinau International Airport, the Azerbaijani delegation was welcomed by
Moldova`s Deputy Premier Andrei Stratan and other officials.
Prior to the meeting, Moldovan President Vladimir Voronin received heads of
delegations. He stressed the importance of the issues included in the meeting`s
agenda.
During the meeting, heads of government discussed about 30 issues.
The event participants adopted CIS Economic Development Strategy for the next
decade. The document aims at injecting new impetus into economic development of the
member states, ensuring stable and balanced economic growth and economic security.
They recommended the CIS Economic Council to formulate a set of additional measures
to tackle the global financial crisis.
An accord giving priorities to transport cooperation and joint measures to enhance
food safety was also ratified during the event.
The heads of government also signed the Convention on the legal status of labour
migrants and their family members and other documents on transport cooperation. The
participants welcomed Turkmenistan`s initiative to host the CIS agricultural forum
in 2009.
Azerbaijan did not sign some documents taking into consideration its national
interests and legislation.
The participants decided to hold the next meeting of CIS Council of Heads of
Government in May 2009 in Astana.
On the sidelines of the meeting, the Azerbaijani Premier met with his Ukrainian
counterpart Yulia Tymoshenko to discuss several issues of mutual interest.
The Azerbaijani delegation returned home on November 14.
