FOURTH ENERGY SUMMIT IN BAKU ENDS
Baku, 14 November,(AzerTAj)The 4th Energy Summit dedicated to energy security issues
took place at the Gulustan palace in Baku on November 14.
President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev warmly welcomed Presidents Abdullah Gul of
Turkey, Valdas Adamkus of Lithuania, Viktor Yuschenko of Ukraine, Mikheil
Saakashvili of Georgia, and Lech Kaczynski of Poland, as well as Vice-President of
Bulgaria Angel Marin, Prime Ministers Ferenc Gyurcsany of Hungary and Andrus Ansip
of Estonia.
Also attending the summit were U.S. Energy Secretary Samuel Bodman, EU Energy
Commissioner Andris Piebalgs, and representatives from more than 20 countries and
diplomats.
Prior to the start of the event Heads of State and Government posed together for
photographs.
Opening the summit, Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev stressed its importance to his
country.
The President spoke of Azerbaijan`s oil and gas potential and large-scale energy
projects initiated by the country.
Other speakers at the event included Presidents Mikheil Saakashvili of Georgia,
Valdas Adamkus of Lithuania, Lech Kaczynski of Poland, Abdullah Gul of Turkey,
Viktor Yuschenko of Ukraine, Vice-President of Bulgaria Angel Marin, Prime Ministers
Andrus Ansip of Estonia and Ferenc Gyurcsany of Hungary, U.S. Energy Secretary
Samuel Bodman, EU Energy Commissioner Andris Piebalgs, as well as delegates from
Romania, Greece, Kazakstan, Italy, Turkmenistan and Latvia.
They praised Azerbaijan`s contribution to ensuring Europe`s energy security.
The speakers also discribed the construction of Odessa-Brody oil pipeline and
creation of trans-Baltic transport corridors to deliver Caspian oil and natural gas
to the Black and Baltic Sea regions and Central Europe as imperatives of the present
time.
The summit ended with the adoption of a Declaration.
Closing the summit, President Ilham Aliyev stressed the importance of the fact that
nine European Union countries and European Commission joined the document.

continued in the spirit of cooperation allowing us to reach all our goals.”
