RUPIAH DROPS 300 POINTS AGAINST US DOLLAR EARLY FRIDAY
Jakarta, Nov. 14 (ANTARA) - The rupiah again weakened against foreign currencies in the Jakarta inter-bank spot market early Friday.
The Indonesian currency was down 300 points at the level of 11.800 per US dollar from Rp11,500 per US dollars a day earlier.
The rupiah dropped 3.64 points at the level of Rp121.29 per Japanese Yen, from Rp117.64 per Yen yesterday.
The rupiah traded at Rp7,774.75 per Singapore dollar, down 159.36 points, at 7,753 per Australia dollar, decrease by98.94 points, and at Rp15,012,21 per Euro, down 336.23 points.
Meanwhile the Composite Stock Price Index (IHSG) at the Indonesian Stock Exchange (BEI) started 3 points higher on early Friday as investors hailed overnight rebounds in US markets.
The IHSG was up 3.078 points or 0.24 percent at 1,262.791 and the LQ45 index surged 0.819 points or 0.37 percent at 244.981.
PT Trimegah Securities in its daily research analysis, said here on Friday that the BEI shares rebounded on the US and regional bourses gains.
Last Thursday (Nov. 13), the Indonesian rupiah depreciated to almost Rp12,000 against the US dollar while the Jakarta Stock Exchange index closed at a level that was down 5.04 percent.
"Worries over the rupiah's depreciation to almost Rp12,000 (Rp11,800) against the US dollar have made the share market depressed," research analyst of PT Sinarmas Sekuritas, Alfiansyah, told ANTARA.
