ASIA PACIFIC MILITARIES AGREE TO FIGHT TERRORISM TOGETHER

Denpasar, Nov 13 (ANTARA) - The militaries of Asia Pacific countries at a conference here have agreed to jointly take part in the fight against international terrorism.
The agreement was made at a conference of Asia Pacific military commanders ending here on Thursday.
Indonesian National Defense Forces (TNI) Commander General Djoko Santoso said the participants of an Asia Pacific Military Commanders' Meeting which ended here Thursday also agreed to implement a common pattern and steps in efforts to overcome and deal with terrorist actions.
"This was agreed because what one country has done so far is not always in line with what others did. In other words, different countries have so far applied different methods in dealing with terrorism," he said.
After discussions , the participants of the conference came to an agreement and shared a common view on the pattern of terrorism handling in the Asia Pacific region, he said.
General Djoko Santoso did not elaborate on it but said the armed forces of the Asia Pacific region would always help each other and jointly take part in the fight against terrorism.
Elaborating on General Djoko Santoso's statement, the commander of the US Fleet in Asia Pacific, Admiral Timothy J Keating, said terrorism had now become a global threat that needed to overcome by joint efforts.
Consequently, he said, the US was very much in agreement with what the conference participants had decided.
The conference was attended by military commanders from 26 countries in the Asia Pacific region.
