BUSINESS COMMUNITY WANTS GOVT TO PROVIDE ECONOMIC STIMULI
Jakarta, Nov 13 (ANTARA) - To anticipate the negative impact of the global financial crisis on the domestic economy, the business community in Indonesia is hoping the government will provide economic stimuli, the leader of businessmen's group said.
"We hope the government can give us economic stimuli to face the possible impact of the global financial crisis on business and industry in Indonesia," Erwein Aksa, chairman of the Association of Young Indonesian Businessmen (Hipmi), said during a dialog on "Economic Outlook 2009" here Wednesday evening.
According to Aksa, the impact of the global crisis wos already being felt through the tightening of national banking liquidity.
He said the economic stimuli businessmen expected were among others a cut in the interest rate, and a "blanket guarantee" or "full guarantee" against all funds deposited in banks.
With the so-called blanket guarantee, businessmen would be able to keep their money in Indonesian banks with confidence.
The Hipmi chairman said a full guarantee would give the banking world certainty about the availability of funds and thus enable them to allocate more funds for credits.
Aksa also expressed hope that the economic stimuli would ease the burden of businessmen in facing the impact of the present global economic crisis.
