India seeks Chinese investments in developing tourism infra

New Delhi, Nov 12 (PTI) India on Wednesday sought investment from Chinese entrepreneurs to develop tourist infrastructure in the country.

India's Tourism Minister Ambika Soni extended the
invitation to entrepreneurs from China during a meeting she
held with a delegation led by Governor of the Yunnan Province
Qin Guanggrong here.

Soni told the visiting delegation that India and China
must take steps to increase the tourism potential in each
other's country.

During the 45-minute parley, Guangrong asked India to
open a consulate in Kunming to promote tourism back home.

Over four lakh visitors from India travelled to China in
2006 as against 88,000 Chinese tourists in India last year.

Soni told the Chinese side that New Delhi had streamlined
the visa regime for Chinese tourists visiting India.

Guangrong emphasised that India should participate in
tourism shows and travel marts in the Yunnan province, which
he claimed is a leader in tourism in China and also closer to
India geographically. PTI SKU
