ADMIRAL CHENG HO CATCHES EYE OF AGO
The Attorney General's Office (AGO) has turned its attention to former justice and human rights minister Yusril Ihza Mahndra in a Rp400 billion (US$36 million) graft case after all of his implicated former colleagues dropped his name on the witness stand. Assistant attorney general for special crimes Marwan Effendi said Wednesday that Yusril, who played the lead role in TV series Cheng Ho, would be questioned next Tuesday.

BI REGULATES FOREX PURCHASE
Bank Indonesia (the central bank) will limit the purchase of foreign currencies above US$100,000. Through the new regulation to be effective starting on Thursday, Bank Indonesia expects this policy to help balance demand and supply in the forex market, reduce extreme pressure on the rupiah and minimize forex purchases for speculative purposes.

WORLD OIL PRICES DROP BELOW US$60 PER BARREL
World oil prices eased further below US$60 in Asian trade Wednesday after Britain and the EU called for joint action to hold off recession threatening leading economies. In afternoon trade, New York's main contract, light sweet crude for December delivery, fell 20 US cents to $59.13 a barrel. The drop added to the fall of $3.08 on the New York Mercantile Exchange Tuesday when the contract closed at $59.33.
