Jakarta, Nov 12 (ANTARA) - Nipon Maru, the ship for the Southeast Asian Youth Program (SSEAYP), arrived at Tanjung Priok port here Wednesday, after visiting Brunei Darussalam in November 6-9, 2008.

"This is the 35th SSEAYP program since 1974, all the participants gathered in Japan on October 22, 2008 and left Yokohama port on October 31, 2008," Program Administrator Nishizawa Tatsushi, said here Wednesday.
He said that Nipon Maru was scheduled to visit Brunei Darusssalam, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, and the Philipines before returning to Japan
Taking part in the program are 311 participants from different countries in ASEAN and Japan. Each country sent 28 youths and Japan sent 39 to help operations on board the ship.
"Events in this leadership program includes discussions, solidarity group activities, national day (introducing each country's culture). Every participant will have a home stay of three days and two nights," he said.
Moreover, the participants are scheduled to visit Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Muhaimin Iskandar, the ASEAN secretary General Surin Pitsuwan, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Jakarta Governor Fauzi Bowo.
"We get several positive benefits from this program such as discussions, club activities and national day. We were hugely appreciated, we performed the Balinese, Jakarta, West Sumatra, Bengkulu and many other Indonesian traditional cultures. Also, we get to be more disciplined," said Endo Refano from West Sumatra.
"In this program we also have to make an action plan from a topic discussed and shall implement it when we are back home" he said.
"This is a leadership program, based on mutual understanding, respect and friendship but it has developed a fraternity program between ASEAN and Japan. The program gives an impact on the socio-cultural sector as well as the economic sector," said Rhino Wicaksono a 1983 program alumnae, who is also the SSEAYP International Indonesian President.
He said that the new alumni have to apply their action plans collectively and individually under the SSEAYP International observation based on all alumni agreements.
"To be a participants of the program, one must be 18-30 years old, have good personality, traditional and national knowledge. Fluent in English is a must because it is the program's language," the Indonesian national leader Mirhan Thabrani said.
When questioned about Japan's benefit from this program Tatsuhsi Nishizawa said, "This program is aimed at friendship enhancement between ASEAN and Japan, because youth relations are very important. So far I see they are deeply involved in this relationship."
"This is the last journey of the Nipon Maru this year, because it will be replaced by a ship under construction in Japan, he added.
Japanese ambassador to Indonesia, Kojiro Shiojiri and Youth and Sports Affairs deputy minister, Muhammad Budi Setiawan, offered a warm welcome to the participants on board.
"I regard Indonesia as a great grace and has much culture to learn. I'm sure you will find a lot of various cultures from other countries and that could be a great asset for your future," the ambassador said.
SSEAYP is an anual program under the Japanese government's supervision. The purpose of this program is to promote, strengthen friendship and mutual understanding among the youths of Southeast Asian countries and Japan.
