RI, DUTCH BIZMEN SHOULD CONTINUE ENHANCING CONTACTS : VAN DER HOEVEN

Jakarta, Nov 12 (ANTARA) - Dutch Economic Affairs Minister Maria van der Hoeven called on Indonesian and Dutch businessmen to continue stepping up their business contacts and partnerships in spite of the current global economic slowdown.
"We want to foster Dutch and Indonesian bilateral relations and therefore businessmen of our two countries should also step up their business contacts and partnerships," van der Hoeven said at a banquet here on Tuesday evening.
Present at the banquet, hosted by businessmen from the two countries, were among others Indonesian Trade Minister Mari Elka Pangestu, State Minister for State Enterprises Sofyan Djalil, Dutch ambassador to Indonesia Nikolaus van Dam, and Indonesian ambassador to the Netherlands J E Habibie.
On the occasion, the Dutch economic affairs minister said Indonesian and Dutch businessmen should strengthen their business relations because there were a lot of business opportunities in various sectors that they could develop.
She said many Dutch companies had sunk capital in Indonesia with their investments in 2007 recorded at a total of f US$147.2 million in 36 projects.
The Dutch capital in Indonesia was operating in various sectors such as dairy products, oil and gas, mining and related supporting services.
Dutch companies such as Shell and Unilever had been operating in Indonesia for a long time.
The Netherlands also had a good reputation in the technological sector in Indonesia such as water management, sanitation, agriculture, finance and services, and food products.
Meanwhile, Dutch Ambassador to Indonesia Nikolaos van Dam said Indonesian and Dutch businessmen could complement each other in stepping up their business contacts and partnerships.
"The presence of Dutch businessmen in Indonesia will further strengthen economic partnerships between the two countries," van Dam said.
