PRESIDENT ARRIVES IN SUKABUMI TO ATTEND GRAND HARVEST

Sukabumi, W Java, Nov 12 (ANTARA) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and his entourage arrived in the West Java town of Sukabumi on Wednesday morning to attend a Bernas hybrid paddy grand harvest in Lembur Situ sub district.

On their drive to the grand harvest at Jeruk Nyelap hamlet in Situ Mekar village, Lembur Situ sub district, the president and his entourage were greeted by hundreds of red-and-white flag-waving elementary and high-school students who had lined up along the route.

On the occasion the president was accompanied by First Lady Ani Yudhoyono, West Java Governor Ahmad Heryawan, Sukabumi Mayor Mokh Muslikh Abdussyukur, and Sukabumi district head Sukmawijaya.

In Sukabumi city proper, local residents also waved their hands at Yudhoyono as the head of state and his entourage passed through Siliwangi, Otista, Lingkar Selatan, and Pelabuan IiI streets.

The grand harvest of Bernas hybrid paddy was organized by PT Sumber Alam Sutera (SAS).

The company, in partnership with farmers in Sukabuni, has been cultivating the particular type of paddy since 2004 and so far it could produce 12 to 16 tons per hectare.

"It's great. With only a small rice field, farmers can produce 12 to 16 tons of Bernas rice per hectare," Sukabumi Mayor Moh Muslikh Abdussyukur said, adding that he fully supported the partnership between local farmers and PT SAS.
