FIRE RAZES 60 HOUSES IN PALANGKA RAYA

Palangka Raya, C Kalimantan, Nov 11 (ANTARA) - A fire ravaged at least 60 houses in a densely-populated area in the Central Kalimantan provincial capital of Palangka Raya on Tuesday afternoon.
The fire which broke out at 11.30 a.m. was believed to have originated from an explosion at the house of late Haji Idris.
The blaze later spread quickly to nearby houses mostly made of wood.
Dozens of fire trucks were rushed to the scene 15 minutes after the fire broke out.
"The fire spread very quickly because the houses were very close to one another. Moreover, fire fighters had difficulties reaching the scene because of narrow alleys," chief of the neighborhood association Suriansyah said.
The fire also destroyed shops, a mosque and a hotel.
But there was no immediate report of casualties or material damage.
Fire fighters with the help of hundreds of residents managed to put out the blaze about one-and-a-half hours later.
Central Kalimantan Governor Agustin Teras Narang inspected the scene as the fire was ravaging tens of houses.
