BI APPOINTS FARID HARIANTO TO LEAD TEAM TO SETTLE INDOVER CASE

Jakarta, Nov 11 (ANTARA) - Bank Indonesia (BI or central bank) has appointed former deputy chief of the National Bank Restructuring Agency (BPPN), Farid Harianto, to lead a team to settle the Indover Bank case, a BI spokesperson said.
"As a follow up to our decision to settle Indover Bank problem, the central bank has formed a team to deal with problems relating to Indover Bank. The team will be led by Farid Harianto who as of November 10, 2008, has been appointed as an advisor to the Bank Indonesia governor with the special assignment to help the central bank find the best resolution for all parties," director of BI's directorate of strategic planning and public relations Dyah N.K. Makhijani said in a press statement on Tuesday.
She said the team would represent Bank Indonesia as an Indover Bank shareholder to deal with all domestic as well as foreign parties linked to Indover.
The Indonesische Overaeese Bank NV (Indover Bank) is a bank whose shares are 100 percent held by Bank Indonesia.
The operations of the bank which is headquartered in the Netherlands, were freezed on October 7, 2008 by a Dutch court after defaulting on a US$92 million debt.
The threat of Bank Indover's bankcruptcy grew following the issuance of a letter of comfort by Bank Indonesia which had been misused by Indover in a credit syndication deal.
Bank Indonesia only knew about the letter that had been put in one of the clauses on a syndication deal worth US$117.5 million from nine banks and another US$80 million from five banks.
Among the banks that have put their funds in Indover are Bank Mandiri totalling US$31 million, BRI US$60 million, BNI US$27 million, Bank Ekonomi 19,000 euro, Bank Artha Graha 107.890 euro, Bank Lippon US$5 million and Bank Bukopin US$15 million.
