UAE VP conducts dialogue with Global Agenda Councils
Abu Dhabi, Nov 11, 2008 (WAM) - Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum received Sunday night separately members of the global agenda councils on social entrepreneurship, world finance, future of the internet and future of the Middle East, in the presence of Founder and Executive Chairman of the World Economic Forum, Prof. Klaus Schwab.
The meetings took place on the sideline of the inaugural Summit on the Global Agenda, convened by the World Economic Forum in partnership with the Government of Dubai and opened by Sheikh Mohammed on Friday and concluded yesterday.
Members of the Global Agenda Councils apprised Sheikh Mohammed with their assessments of the state of the world in their focus areas and initial outlines of solutions and approaches for the challenges ahead. The Councils brought together leading experts to tackle some of the key issues facing the world, from financial insecurity to global warming and from the future of the Internet to water security.
Sheikh Mohammed's keynote address before the summit was the focus of discussions during the four meetings.
They said Sheikh Mohammed had skilfully analysed the diagnosed the ill of the international financial crisis through a clear-crystal reading.
They termed his address as ''realistic'' and ''frank'' and underlined a high sense of responsibility towards his country's economy and global economy.
According to them, the address voiced his vision about concerns and fall out of the international financial and banking sector.
Sheikh Mohammed met with members of the global agenda council on social entrepreneurship who familiarised him with their plans and aspirations for the future.
He told them: "We in the UAE spur social leaders to communicate with donors at the Arab Centre for Philanthropy, which we launched last year."
The Centre, he said, would assist social leaders to achieve aspired changes.
While interacting with members of the global agenda council on world finance, Sheikh Mohammed urged the prominent experts on finance and business to employ their expertise and creative thinking to fight malpractices exercised by some financial and banking corporations and come up with a common approach to contain the current financial crunch and protect the world financial order and interests of people.
During his dialogue with members of the global agenda council on the future of the internet, Sheikh Mohammed implored the IT savvies to work hard for advancing the industry which, he believes, has become the central nerve of today's life. He also urged them to boost two-way cooperation with the Dubai Internet City as a leading education and training provider in the Middle East and promoter of digital culture among social, academic, financial and economic circles.
Concluding his meeting with members of the global agenda council on the future of the Middle East, Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai H. H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum told them : ''He is completely conscious of what is happening on the Middle East from conflicts and rows which weigh negatively on the future of sustainable development which he is striving to achieve along with provision of job opportunities for Arab young men to chart bright future for the next generations.
Sheikh Mohammed appealed to leaders of youth's movement across the world to close ranks and toil effectively and positively to urge their governments adopt the path of peaceful co-existence and humanitarian, cultural and economic communication with the peoples of the Middle East for the sake of justice, freedom and independence.
