Mohammed bin Zayed receives Chinese Defence Minister

Abu Dhabi, Nov 11, 2008 (WAM) - Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, H.H. General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan Monday afternoon received at the Al-Bateen Palace Chinese Defence Minister, Lt. General Liang Guanglie and his accompanying delegation.

Sheikh Mohammed warmly welcomed the Chinese official and his entourage and praised the growing relations of friendship and cooperation between the two friendly countries. He also praised the two countries for their efforts to further boost avenues of joint cooperation in all fields, particularly in areas related to military and defence affairs.

During the meeting, they discussed avenues of bilateral cooperation between the UAE and China in the area of military and defence and ways to boost them. Sheikh Mohammed reiterated the UAE's commitment to achieve stronger joint cooperation between the two countries in view of China's industrial and technological advancement and the significant role Beijing plays on the world economic and political stage.

They exchanged views on a number of issues of mutual interest and issues related to boosting security and stability in the region, as well as on the latest developments on the international scene.

Present at the meeting were Chief of Staff of the UAE Armed Forces, Lt. General Hamad Mohammed Thani Al-Rumaithy, Under Secretary of the Office of the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince, Mohammed Mubarak Al-Mazrue and Chinese Ambassador, Gao Yusheng.
